Stock Trends Update: Strong Buys in Broad Markets and Key Sectors – Jan 23 Analysis

Hey everyone, Joe here from Raleigh, NC – it's early morning on January 23, 2026, and I'm back with my daily look at ETF trends. As a former programmer, I geek out on technical analysis tools like MACD, RSI, Stochastic, and others to spot if prices might go up or down. My spreadsheet crunches these for ETFs like SPY, QQQ, and more, over 5 to 30 days. It flags "buy" for weak upsides, "BUY" for strong ones, "sell" for weak downs, "SELL" for big drops – or nothing if it's neutral. Today's data shows bullish vibes in broad markets, but some sells in bonds and energy. Let's break it down simply.

Quick Recap of the Data

Compared to yesterday's sheet, we see more buys in mid-caps and financials. Tools like the Ultimate Oscillator and Parabolic SAR are pointing up for indexes, while Money Flow Index shows caution in gold and utilities. Backtest scores (that last column) are decent, especially longer-term, meaning these calls have worked about 70-90% historically.

Consensus Signal Table

Here's a table summing up the signals from today's CSV. I grouped by time periods, with colors for easy spotting: light green for weak buy, dark for strong; light red for weak sell, dark for strong. Consensus is my simple take on the overall trend.

Spotlight on Strong Consensus Trends

For ETFs with a "Strong Buy" consensus (like multiple BUYs or overall bullish), I checked online for recent articles or chats. Here's what I found – titles, links, and why they agree or disagree with the call. Simple stuff: if the author sees upside, it confirms; if not, it pushes back.

  • IJH (Strong Buy): This mid-cap ETF looks strong across periods. Article "IJH Stock Forecast & Price Target 2026 | Is IJH a Good Stock to Buy?" from rockflow.ai agrees, projecting $85-$95 by end-2026 on steady growth, matching the buy signal. Another from stockinvest.us, "Ishares Core S&p Mid-cap Etf ETF Price Forecast. Should You Buy IJH?" upgrades to strong buy, expecting 7.69% rise in 3 months due to positive moving averages, confirming the trend.
  • QQQ (Strong Buy): Tech-heavy, with buys at 10,20,30 days. "INVESCO QQQ STOCK PRICE PREDICTION 2026, 2027, 2028-2030" from longforecast.com agrees partly, forecasting average $640 by June 2026 (up from ~$618), but notes some dips, overall bullish. "Hot 2026 Start for This ETF Could Signal Durable Upside" from etftrends.com talks related small-cap but implies QQQ upside from AI and rates, supporting the call.
  • SPY (Strong Buy): Broad market, strong across most periods. "Will the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY) Stock Hit $800 in 2026?" from Yahoo Finance agrees it could, needing 21.5% rise, but depends on policy; optimistic on GDP. "10 Predictions For 2026" from Seeking Alpha sees S&P continuing up on cooling inflation and Fed cuts, confirming strong buy.
  • XLF (Strong Buy - Long): Financials shining at 25-30 days. "3 Reasons Why XLF Is My Top Pick To Beat The Market In 2026" from Seeking Alpha strongly agrees, citing stable outlook, strong earnings, cheap valuations vs. SPY. "Should You Invest in the State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF)?" from Nasdaq rates strong buy on momentum and low expense, backing the long-term call.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the signals lean buy on big indexes and financials – my TA tools like RSI are above 50 for these, showing momentum. But watch sells in TQQQ and XOP, where oscillators dip. If you're trading, start small and check your risk. I will be posting tomorrow!
